Springtime in Kardamili Kardamyli Καρδαμύλη

The best time to visit

The seasoned voyager know that the best time to visit Greece is anytime between March and June. As daytime temperatures in March often hover around 13°C, with average highs at a comfortable 17°C, good weather plays a big part in pleasant travelling. And whereas the heat of full summer has a tendency to kick up a light haze, the temperate weather of spring produces clear, intense hues. Landscapes are colourful and cogent, with spectacular detail to the eye.

In Kardamili, further to time devoted towards leisurely pursuits and total relaxation, a handful of springtime events guarantee a decent collection of attractions to entice the first-time visitor.

To begin with, the beautiful customs of Greek Orthodox Easter offer an inimitable panoply of experience, with enthralling glimpses into local festivities and traditions on the eastern side of Europe, and with delicious samplings of foods.

Kardamili is the base and starting/finishing point for one of the most prestigious mountain running meets on the ITRA (International Trail Running Association) calendar: the Taygetos Challenge, organised each year in March. With magnificent views of the beautiful Mani as a backdrop, the event has in these past years featured the élite of trail running athletes, including Greek national team long distance runner and local hero, Nikos Ponireas.

Another seasonal highlight worthy of attendance is the Kardamili Jazz Festival, which takes place for around ten days in May. Hosted by the Sarpsborg Jazz Club in Norway in cooperation with New Orleans Workshop and Asker Jazz Club, the Festival features more than 50 mini-concerts organised in café-bars and restaurants all around the village, with distinguished musicians from all around the world. The concerts are free of charge and tremendously enjoyable.
